Personal training as a whole in this country has a terrible reputation. Yes this is true. Almost anyone can call themselves a TRAINER with no certifications and no understanding of exercise or how improve someone's performance.
When the average person thinks about a personal trainer, they think of an shady employee at a commercial gym who wants you to sign up for $1000+ training package that gives the illusion of of "getting a hollywood body" in no time. When the session package is over, and the person has not gotten stronger or changed their physique, they lose all respect for the industry as a whole. 9 times out of 10, the "trainer" was not certified...the "trainer" had zero experience...the "trainer" was just trying to make a quick buck...I personally feel that this devalues the industry as a whole. Real results take effort and time from the trainer and the client. It is a teamwork thing. If the client is getting no input from a trainer on how to improve themselves, then why is the trainer there? This is the majority of trainers in these commercial gym establishments. I have worked amongst certain individuals who disgrace the game of fitness. To all trainers, take pride in what you do. If not, get out of the profession. Be an example for your clients. Be an example for prospective clients. The industry is stained, and it will take some professionalism and time to clean it up. Trainers, look into getting a real certification, reading some great books on training schemes and progressions, and living the life before you decide to hurt the industry.
